Characterized by an exceptional mix of flora and fauna, the Nanda Devi National Park is a well known biosphere reserve located in the Chamoli district of Uttrakhand. It is spread around the bottom of Nanda Devi, the highest mountain peak in India. The park is adorned due to its diverse eco-system and stunning scenic beauty.
The park remained undisturbed till 1950 after which the regular expeditions to Nanda Devi started. In 1982, the park was declared as a National Park and then as a Biosphere Reserve. And in 1988, it was declared as World Heritage Site by UNESCO, on the basis of two criteria. The first criteria verify that it has an unmatched natural beauty and according to the second criteria, the park has a large number of threatened species.
One can be easily mesmerized at the stunning natural views of the alpine flower meadows and can witness a huge range of distinguished species like Bharal, Himalayan Tahr, snow leapord, blue sheep Goral and Musk Deer. You can visit this park anytime from May to October as for rest of the months the paths are closed due to heavy snowfall.
