Ram Raja Temple

The Ram Raja Temple is a Hindu temple that was constructed in the 16th century. It is one of the most popular temples in Madhya Pradesh. It is just a km away from the complex of Orchha Fort. Earlier, it was a palace that was built by the Madhukar Shah for his queen. It is said that once Lord Rama comes in the dream of Ganesh kuwari and asked her to build a temple for him. After that, she brought the picture of Lord Rama from the Ayodhya. The temple was not completed that time so she kept the image of Lord Rama in the palace. Later the deity refused to shift from that place. So, the palace was converted into the temple. In this temple, Lord Rama is worshipped by the people as a king.

In this temple, Lord Rama decorated with a royal turban whereas Sita Mata is wearing a crown. Lord Lakshman dressed as a prince. The silver door of the temple looks beautiful with is decorated with the head of two elephants. The silver Ganesh and symbol of Sun are used to decorate the beam of the door. The temple has an idol of Lord Rama, Sita, Laxman, Sugreeva, and Narsingh. The temple also has idols of Hanuman and jamwant. The temple has a beautiful architecture. The courtyard is made up of marble with having multi-color walls. There is a sword on the right hand of Lord Rama and shield on its left hand. The idol of Lord Rama is sitting in the posture of Padmasana.

The festivals of Ram Navami, Shivratri, Kartik Purnima are celebrated with great fun. It is the only temple in the country where Lord Rama is worshipped as a king. The police guards are also provided at the temple. During the occasion, the first invitation is always sent to the temple.

The opening time of the temple is from 8 AM to 1 PM and from 7 PM to 9 PM. The Aarti is done at 9 AM, 12 PM and at 7 PM. The nearest airport is in Gwalior and railway station is in Jhansi.
