Some people said that Lord Brahma constructed this ghat for welcoming Lord Shiva at this place. He took 10 of his horses and sacrificed them; therefore, the ghat was named as Dashashwamedh Ghat.
It is also said that this ghat was built by the Baijirao Peshwa in 1740. In 1774, this ghat was built by the Indore queen Ahilya Bhai Holkar.
