ViceRegal Lodge or Rashtrapati Niwas is located on the Observatory Hill in Shimla is a colonial architectural masterpiece. It is the main memorable landmark in Shimla that involves a whole hill!

The present-day Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS), Vice Regal Lodge is a 6 story structure encompassed by delightful gardens. This memorable structure has been an observer to an enormous number of significant events of political, social and economic significance. After freedom, the building was first converted into Rashtrapati Niwas Estate. Later in 1965, it progressed toward becoming IIAS – open for civil servants and researchers. 

An enormous number of momentous decisions were taken here at Vice Regal Lodge in Shimla that later changed the destiny of billions of individuals in the past Indian sub-mainland. It was the scene of the popular Shimla Conferences in 1945 in pre-independence time.
